Ann Beck

My artistic journey has taken me a great distance both physically and philosophically. Perhaps this is inevitable when you keep at something long enough. I began as a very traditional painter of portraits and landscapes using mostly oil paint on canvas.

Today I enjoy the freedom of using different mediums and different tools to achieve either figurative or abstract art focusing on design and the use of rich, dynamic colors that pull the eye into the piece.

Much of my work includes symbols, colors and elements from the places I have lived and traveled to. For instance, the viewer may see that there is an essence of the American Southwest, New Zealand, Scotland or Japan ~ all places that have affected me and have somehow found their way into my art e.g. the spiral.

I don’t always know what is going to become influential for me but time after time I find that my art is influenced by new experiences and things that are happening in my life or in the world around me.
